Not much has happened in the last week. Kate's wakefulness from 6 pm - 1 am has continued every night, and it's getting very old. We bought some gas drops to try, but they haven't really seemed to help at all. So I decided it was time to take Kate in to the doctor because she's spitting up more than ever, I go through 5-10 burp cloths per day and am now using receiving blankets when I burp her because she has 2-3 projectile vomits per day and it goes EVERYWHERE.
I described all of Kate's symptoms, and the Ped said it's one of two things - reflux or Pyloric Stenosis. But she's really leaning towards reflux based on Kate's coughing, gagging, milk coming out her nose, etc. The best news is that she's 99% sure that Kate's wakefulness that she usually has from 6 pm - 1 am is because of discomfort due to the reflux. She thinks once it's treated she will sleep again. (YAY!)
She gave me reflux meds to give her, and see how she does over the next couple of weeks. She said that if it's the pylo, it will only get worse because the meds won't help it. In that case, Kate will go in for an ultrasound to be diagnosed, and the only treatment for that is surgery to cut the muscle regulating between the esophagus and stomach. So let's hope it's just reflux!
The best news is that despite all the spit up, Kate is growing very well. She's 10 pounds, 11 oz! my big girl!
